T-shirts. I love them. They are comfy and easy to throw own with a pair of jeans or shorts with
flip flops or tennis shoes. The “go-to” shirt as I like to call it. You can never have enough of
them. I am pretty basic when it comes to getting ready and I typically choose comfort over style.
I love t-shirts with inspirational sayings on them. You know the ones that I am talking about.
Blessed, Grateful, I start my mornings with coffee and Jesus, It is well with my soul, Faith is
greater than fear, the list goes on and on. I have several of these t-shirts and my favorite is Faith
is Greater than Fear. I believe in my previous blog “Worn out or New” I am wearing that shirt in
the photo. Haha. Anyways, one day I was wearing that shirt and my brother in- law saw it and
said “Hey I like that! But I’ll do ya one better!” I said, “O yeah, what’s that?” He said, “Feed your
faith and starve your fears.” This has been engraved in my mind ever since and really has
challenged me. I know that “Faith is greater than Fear” but how am I feeding my faith and
starving my fears?
I want to start with starving your fears. Fear is a natural emotion common to all human beings.
Our fears often can be connected to the things we love the most. We may fear losing something
or someone we love or we might fear that we will fail to obtain something we desire. The fear of
doubt, self-worth, and much more creeps into the human mind. So how do we starve these fears
away? We do it by feeding our faith! We need to have that relationship with Jesus and trust in
him! There are so many promises that God reveals to us in his word!
Psalm 23:4- Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with
me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.
Isaiah 41:13- For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do
not fear; I will help you.
Jesus promised “I am with you. I will never leave you or abandon you”. No matter the circumstance,
you are NOT alone. If you are his son/daughter, you have God present so whom shall we fear.
So how do we feed our faith? I feel like I can speak for the majority of people that when I say when
you hear the word Sunday what’s the first thing that pops in your mind and the answer would be
Church. We go to church on Sunday’s to gather together and worship God and hear his word so
we can “feed our faith,” but what about the other days of the week? Think of it this way. The
typical human being eats 3 meals a day, 7 days a week to keep their body energized and fulfilled.
That is 21 meals in 7 days and let’s not forget about the snacks in between. Imagine if you only
ate 1 meal for an entire week. You would be starving! Just like you are starving your faith if you
are depending on feeding it only 1 time out of the week! I was guilty of this! I was giving God
only 1 day out of my entire week to him and I knew it needed to change.
God gave us the ultimate tool to feed our faith. The Bible! It is strictly God’s word.
Proverbs 30:5- Every word of God is Flawless.
2 Timothy 3:16-17- All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting, and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped
for every good work.
Matthew 4:4- It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from
the mouth of God.
Hebrews 4:12- For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it
penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes
of the heart.
I know you may say well I don’t have time to sit down and read my bible or do a devotional. I
know, I was there too but you have to make time! Even if it’s 15 minutes a day. Just like every
relationship in life you have to put in the work. If you want a relationship with God and your
faith to grow you have to give him your time! It may be a struggle at first but God will start to
reveal new things to you that you have never known before and you will find yourself wanting to
read and study his word and not just listen to it one day a week.
Jesus will never leave you or abandon you. He was raised back to life and forever lives for us. We no
longer have to fear because HE LIVES! You are not alone.
If our God is for us, than who can stand against us?
John 3:16- For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in
he should not perish but have everlasting life.
