It’s finally my favorite time of year. Fall! With how this year has been going I was starting to think will fall ever get here and now here it is! The cooler weather, trees changing colors, bonfires, mums, and pumpkins are all amongst us right now and I love it. To top it off with the new season change we hosted our first-ever Project 6:8 event! The event seemed to go by so fast that it almost seems like a dream as if it really didn’t happen. Reflecting on it today I know God for sure had his hand over us and the event.
We started planning our event several months ago. We decided to host a tea party. We had everything planned out. As the event started getting closer of course it started to get a little stressful. Invitations were sent, the food list was created, tables and chairs were lined up, and the weather was looking promising. It wasn’t until a couple of days before the event when Satan started to attack each of us individually. Poor Meg was having serious car troubles. While she was driving on the highway behind a semi something blew off of the semi, which to this day I don’t think we really established what it was, and Meg hit it will her car and it basically destroyed her tire. To top it off as this was all happening her sweet little girl was crying due to a hornet in her boot that was stinging her! I know right! What are the odds! God was looking out for her though. A dear friend was close to where she was and she picked up Meg’s kids for her so she could get her car fixed. We thought it would be a same-day fix but it dragged out for two days! She literally didn’t get her car back until the night before our tea party.
We held the tea party at Kylie’s house. It is located out in the country. We had the concern with farming and beans coming off if it would have an effect on the party or not. We decided to take our chances. Of course, the day before local farmers were taking beans off. I know we can’t be like Ummm excuse me farmer could you please wait till after Saturday to start taking beans off? We are all married to farmers or grew up on a farm so we knew the chance we were taking. Satan’s attack wasn’t putting those farmers in the fields. He was attacking our minds and making us think that if they are taking off beans it’s going to create so much dust and pretty much ruin the event. You know what though. God came through. There wasn’t a single farmer out in the field that morning until after the tea party was over and he eased our minds. Kylie presented a message at the tea party. Prior to that day, she was getting nervous about speaking. Who wouldn’t be though? Satan though was putting doubts in her mind and creating questions and confusion to her about her message and speaking in front of people. When she started to speak you could just feel the Holy Spirit through her and she spoke the truth. She killed it!
My attack came the night before the tea party. Meg and I were practicing our worship set the night before. Everything was running so smoothly! We were making adjustments to our sound on our amps/speakers when mine decided to completely stop working and we couldn’t get sound out of my microphone. I get it, this type of stuff happens but it was like ahh why now!!!! We finally got it working but that night I barely slept knowing that in the morning it may or may not work.
Finally, the morning of the tea party came. The sun was shining, the temperature was perfect, and it was so peaceful! We got everything set up and decorated. Everything looked great! People started to arrive, the tea party began and that’s when the wind decided to join in as well. Table clothes were blowing on top of the cupcakes, decorations were falling and I’m going to admit I was getting a little stressed. Meg, Kylie, I prayed together before we started our worship set, and before Kylie presented the message and in that moment of prayer, I just felt peace and knew it was all going to be ok. The wind kept going and during our worship set Meg’s music binder kept blowing shut and then it was to the point it actually blew off her music stand but we kept ongoing. When Kylie was presenting the message my music stand decided to take a tumble and took down my mic with it as well. It wasn’t fun to watch and inside I was thinking ahh why!!! God just please stop the wind! And you know what? God was listening. He didn’t stop the wind but he for sure blew my mind. We didn’t finish with a final song because all of our stand and mics were on the ground at this point and I was thinking to myself what are we going to do and without hesitation, Meg goes I have an idea. She invited all the women upfront with us and invited them to pray and that’s what we did. We prayed together and at that moment I felt that same peace again. I felt the way I did at the beginning of the morning from when the sun was shining and everything seemed perfect and at that moment standing with those women praying it was perfect. I felt at peace. Satan decided to just throw one more wrench at me though and as we were praying my guitar blew off the stand and crashed to the ground. I’m not saying Satan caused my guitar to fall but it was the feeling I felt that coursed through my body when I heard it hit the ground and it distracted me from what God was showing me in that moment of prayer. My guitar was ok though. Not a scratch on it.
In those moments of prayer with Kylie and Meg and then again with the group of women I knew God was with us the entire time through our tea party. Looking from the outside it wasn’t perfect but the materialistic things aren’t what makes it perfect. Sometimes we get so focused on how things should look and be presented that we overlook the main reason for what our mission is. In that time of prayer, God defiantly brought me back to what the purpose was of the tea party, and when my guitar fell, and that slight moment of rage, I was reminded it is just a materialistic thing. Our purpose in life as Christians is to be the light of Jesus. Our mission as Project 6:8 and Christians is to spread the gospel (Mark 16:15. Go into the entire world and preach the gospel to all creation) and in everything we do, do it all for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10: 31). We fulfilled our mission at our tea party event and I could feel the Holy Spirit present with us. I can’t wait to see what God has planned next for us.
Love, Beth
