This is just an inside look for those of you who wanted it. The day to day process is always different because there is always something that goes wrong….ALWAYS! lol The good thing is, it isn’t always a major thing, majority of the time it is just little inconveniences. Those of you who know me, knows the inconveniences get me more wound up then major breakdowns. haha! I know, I shouldn’t sweat the small stuff, but I do and I am working on trying not to.
To kick off everyday we feed and water in rushed mode, because lets face it we usually are running behind and we don’t want to be late for work. I think the quickest morning feeding has been twenty minutes and that is because we were both sprinting in between barns. For those of you who are thinking get up earlier, we get up at 5:30 to give us plenty of time, we are just those people who are slow movers in the morning! We are getting better though, since we made it a goal for this year.
After work, the process begins all over again, but with additional projects. This is when we do the major fixings. It usually includes, cleaning pens, cleaning out water buckets, fixing fences (because they always have some sort of issue) inspecting the animals, etc.
With each season things change. Some involve more work than others, such as, bailing hay or “winterizing” the barns. But all in all, I love the farm life. I love seeing the progress we have made over the past couple years. It all started with two tiny goats and basically no money. But the love we have for our little animal farm is more than words can express. We are thankful for all of the opportunities God has provided us with.
For those who have wondered why we chose the name, Olive Tree Farms, we got it from the verse,
“When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf. Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth.”
Genesis 8:11
We see the olive leaf as a promise to a prosperous life. Just like God promised Noah, we believe he has also promised us a life full of thriving adventures. We know that He will always provide.
Now that you have a little insight to the farm, let me introduce you to a few of our occupants.
Kit & Molly are our two registered Flemish Giant rabbits.
A few of our goats (Fanny, Fynn, Jade, Dixie, Minnie.) We have about 10 total, so we will just stick with a few.
Our lone Sheep, Olive, whom actually had the name when she came to us.
Our horses, Chet & Reba.
A few of our cattle, we obviously don’t stick to one breed. haha!
And last, but not least, our pups: Dory, Mars, and Jupiter aka Jup.
