In a world full of negative, I choose to remain positive. I know the negative is still there, therefore, I am not ignoring it, but I am called to relinquish all of my worries.
The Girl On Fire…That is what Katniss Everdeen was called in The Hunger Games Trilogy. Some of my absolute favorite books and movies. I loved the fearlessness of Katniss and those around her. I felt in a weird way I connected with her. With how the world is today, The Hunger Games doesn’t seem as far fetched as it did when the books and movies first came out. In a few short years, we have seen how easily the world can fall.
But, amongst the chaos and the ruthlessness of people, I choose to be The Girl On Fire. Not physically on fire, like Katniss, no…I choose to be The Girl On Fire for Jesus. I choose to sing His praises every day with a smile on my face. I choose to put Him in the center of my life. I choose to always remain in Him for He is my comfort, strength, and refuge.
Do you want to know why I chose the element of fire? What other element spreads as fast as a fire? None. The beautifully scary thing about fires is once there is one spark, it ignites, and once it is ignited it spreads faster than any other element.
We need to spread the love of Jesus like a raging fire. No fear. No sales pitch. Just love.
We all have the same calling, even though it may look differently on how we accomplish it. We are called to follow Jesus and to have a burning passion while doing it. We shouldn’t do it out of obligation or because “it’s what everyone else is doing.” No! We do it because we want to create a spark. We do it because we are People on Fire.
Being on fire for Jesus sounds pretty intense and it is….intensely peaceful. When Jesus is in you, you can’t really help but feel anything else. How?! Because all of the fear is gone. It’s so overwhelming it brings me to tears. His love for us is so great.
One of my favorite worship songs says:
“I count on one thing
The same God that never fails
Will not fail me now
You won’t fail me now
In the waiting
The same God who’s never late
Is working all things out
You’re working all things out
Yes I will, lift You high in the lowest valley
Yes I will bless Your name
Oh, yes I will sing for joy when my heart is heavy
All my days, oh yes I will.”
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” – John 14:27
So, Raise a Hallelujah! Heaven comes and fights for us. The Kingdom is near! Create a line so thin between your earthly home and your heavenly home, that when the time comes and you pass over it seems as if your heart has been there all along.
